Public Health Nursing

Health Nursing incorporates nursing theory and public health science in delivering services in the homes, clinics, detention centers, assisted living facilities, schools and community settings to standardize care within a Public Health structure. Public health nurses integrate community involvement and knowledge about the entire population with personal, clinical understandings of the health and illness experiences of our patients and their families. This also includes strategies and advocacy aimed at entire population groups, families, or individuals. Public health nurses contribute to systems for monitoring crucial health status indicators such as environmentally caused illnesses, immunization levels, infant mortality rates, health promotion, disease prevention and communicable disease occurrence to identify problems that threaten the public’s health and develop effective interventions.
