Health Promotion Programs

The Health Promotion Program consists of seven programs. Our goal is to empower our people and communities to take control of their health and improve their well-being, choose healthy behaviors, and create environments that support good health.

Office of Environmental Health

The purpose of the Northern Cheyenne Office of Environmental Health is to prevent and reduce environmentally related illness and injuries among Tribal Members of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. The goals of the OEH program include conducting institutional surveys, conducting inspections for food service systems, coordinating food handlers training, water surveys, vector control, and injury prevention awareness.

Tobacco Prevention Program

The mission of Northern Cheyenne Tobacco Prevention Program is to address the public health crisis caused by use of all forms of commercial tobacco products. The program works to eliminate commercial tobacco use, especially among young people through community wide programs and policies.

Veterans Benefits Program

The Veteran Benefits Program provides effective outreach, peer assistance and up-to-date information. The program offers application assistance to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for benefits and services. The program works with honorably discharged military service members of all branches and their family members to assist with information on medical care, compensation, pensions, home loans, education benefits, and other VA programs and services.

Suicide Prevention Program

The purpose of the Suicide Prevention Program is to empower the community to prevent suicide through mental health and suicide prevention education. This program supports evidence-based interventions and policies to create a community that is knowledgeable about mental health and suicide while serving as a resource to assist survivors to promote healing on an individual basis as well as a community level.

Oncology Program

The Oncology Program focuses on the promotion of healthy lifestyles and cancer prevention through proper education and effective outreach among the people on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation.

WIC Office

The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program provides extra support to help keep your family healthy. The program provides nutritious food, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to other services, to support you and your family.

Health Education

The Health Education Program focuses on the promotion of healthy lifestyles through proper education and effective outreach among the people on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. The program can help prepare people to take greater responsibility for their own health and that of their families and communities. Through health education, individuals acquire the information, skills, and values for making responsible decisions about their personal health.
